Control Permissions with Profiles: Create a Profile Step by Step
What is a Profile?#
A Profile is a permission template assigned to a user. It answers: "What is this person allowed to do?" You create one profile per job type — then assign it to every user in that role.
Step 1 — Open Settings#

Click the Settings icon in the left sidebar.
Step 2 — Go to Profiles#

Under Security Control, click Profiles. You will see any existing profiles here. On a blank account, there may be a default Administrator profile.
Step 3 — Click Add Profile#

Click Add Profile to open the creation form.
Step 4 — Add the Profile Name#
Give the profile a name that describes the job type — e.g. Sales Representative, Marketing Executive, Customer Success Manager. This name appears in the user invite form so it is clear which profile to assign.

Step 5 — Set permissions for each module#

Work through each module and turn on the permissions this job type needs. Use the permission matrix in the previous article as a guide. For a Sales Representative:
Contacts → Create ✓, View ✓, Edit ✓, Delete ✗
Leads → Create ✓, View ✓, Edit ✓, Delete ✗
Deals → Create ✓, View ✓, Edit ✓, Delete ✗
Campaigns → No access
Settings → No access
Step 6 — Click on Create Profile#
Click Create Profile. The profile is now available to assign to users.
